Bears put up 62 on Great Valley

EAST WHITELAND - While many other teams were beginning their postseason drives in district playoffs, several other teams that didn't make the dance were playing non-league contests to wind down their season.

Oh, if only the Boyertown football team could have played as well as they did Friday night earlier this season as Logan Herb and Ryan Schwager carried the Bears to a resounding 62-26 win over host Great Valley.

Herb ran for 130 yards and three touchdowns, while adding another on a two-yard reception to lead the Bears' offense. Schwager, meanwhile, picked up 107 yards on the ground with three touchdowns of his own. He would add a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to cap the most points scored by a Boyertown football team in school history.

"It's been a long time since a Boyertown team has scored 62 points," an elated Bears coach Mark Scisly said after the game. "I know I've never coached a team that scored 62 points in a game.

"We are playing very good football right now. The guys are working really hard to get better, and they have really persevered this season. They played an excellent game today."

The win improved the Bears record to 6-4 overall, and guaranteed that they would finish with a winning record no matter what happens in their final game of the season on Thanksgiving against Upper Perk.

Boyertown quarterback Dylan Pasik was 5-for-9 passing for 43 yards and a touchdown. Jon Neiman added 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Bears, who outgained the Patriots 378 to 304 overall.

Charles Showers led Great Valley, which celebrated Senior Night before the game, with 105 yards on the ground. Brian Pommerer picked up 75 yards rushing, while adding another 27 receiving before leaving in the fourth quarter with an apparent shoulder injury. Quarterback Dave Hausladen was 8-of-20 passing for 99 yards with a pair of touchdowns and three interceptions. Erik Buchholz and Jesse Horn were on the receiving end of the two scoring tosses.

Great Valley's Alec Carr was taken off the field just before halftime with an apparent neck injury. No further information was available after the game. Carr's injury came with 1:31 left in the first half, and the officials decided to send both teams to the locker room for an early halftime. When both teams returned, they played the final 1:31 of the second quarter before starting the third quarter.
