Scholastic football: Boyertown 41, Phoenixville 28

At Boyertown, Jerry Kapp got the record out of the way early then set about trying to break another one.

The Boyertown senior caught a pair of passes for 64 yards and recorded four interceptions as Boyertown finished October unbeaten by toppling visiting Phoenixville in a Pioneer Athletic Conference crossover game Friday night.

The Bears (4-6) may have one game remaining, which would be in the Eastern Conference playoffs next weekend. They will learn their fate Sunday.

Kapp left nothing to chance, though. He needed 4 yards to become the school's all-time leader in receiving yards. He ended the night - and maybe his career - with 1,258 yards receiving to move past Brandon Mason, Class of 2000, for the top spot.

"It means the world to me," said Kapp. "I just want to start off by giving credit to every single person I've played with these past three years. It's been incredible. All the coaches I've played under, they've all believed in me, including Coach (T.J.) Miller. I know we're a running offense mostly but he finds me the ball."

Kapp broke the record on the second play of the game, snaring a 14-yard pass from quarterback Ayden Mathias, who ended up throwing for 150 yards and three touchdowns.

Two of Mathias' TD passes were to Marcus Thomas, the other to Kevin O'Connor.

Kapp's four interceptions may be a single-game record, though that was not able to be confirmed immediately following the game.

"You can't say enough about a guy like Jerry Kapp, especially in an offense that we have which is primarily based on the run," said Miller. "He's unselfish. There are times he comes to the sidelines and says, 'Coach keep running, keep running.' He's just a complete team player."

Boyertown churned out 396 yards on the ground with sophomore Jamison Moccia leading the way with 187 yards on just eight carries.

Moccia scored on touchdown runs of 87 and 60 yards.

"I've learned a lot and I'll be ready for next year," said Moccia.

Thomas also topped 100 yards on the ground, gaining 102 on 16 carries.

The Bears nearly had a third 100-yard rusher, but senior Nick Moccia - Jamison's big brother - settled for 85 yards.
